What's free, what's paid

What's free, what's paid

Last updated: 25 May 2026

We're putting this on the record so there are no surprises later. Here's what Amble costs today, what's planned, and our promise to you.

Today

Amble is free. Every feature in the app is free. No ads. No tracking. No upsells while you're walking.

Coming later — Amble Pro

We're building an optional Pro tier for people who walk a lot. Pro adds new features on top of the free app — it doesn't take anything away.

Here's what's coming, and why each one is in:

☁️ Cloud sync across devices
Your walks, saved routes, dog profiles and personal POIs back up automatically. Switch to a new phone, sign in, everything's there. Photo locations sync too (pinned on the map at the spot where you took them) — the photos themselves stay in your iCloud Photos or Google Photos backup, which is where they already live. Today, if you lose your phone, you lose your walking history. Pro fixes that.
📚 Unlimited walk history
Free users keep their most recent 50 walks — about three months for a daily walker. Pro keeps every walk you've ever recorded. Worth it if you want to look back at "what did I walk this time last year?"
🗺 Offline maps for saved walks
Pre-download the map tiles for any saved route. Walk it later with no signal — moors, glens, woodland, anywhere reception drops out. Also kinder on your battery: the phone stops searching for signal. Free Amble uses live maps; Pro adds the pre-download.
🥾 Multi-day trail planner
For people walking long-distance routes — the Coast Path, the West Highland Way, your own week-long loop. Plot daily stages, mark overnight stops, see the whole route across days. Niche, but the niche actually walks.
🏥 Apple Health & Health Connect two-way sync
Finished Amble walks land in your Apple Health (or Android Health Connect) rings automatically. Past walks already in Health import back into Amble as read-only history — no extra typing. Imported walks never influence Amble's personalisation; they just show up.
🌧 Aggressive weather-aware routing
Free Amble warns you when rain's coming and softly biases the route. Pro Amble actually routes around it — actively prefers sheltered streets, woodland, or covered paths when wet, and shade and water when hot.
⌚ Apple Watch + Live Activities
Glance at remaining distance, pace, and next turn on your wrist. Leave the phone in your pocket — the whole point of Pocket Mode, taken to the logical conclusion. Includes Live Activity on the iPhone lock screen.
👨‍👩‍👧 Family sharing
One subscription covers up to six members of your household. If two of you walk, two of you get Pro.
📤 Bulk GPX export
Single-walk export stays free for everyone — that's the share-with-a-friend case. Pro adds "export everything" — your full history as one file, useful if you want to move data to another tool or back it up yourself.

Pricing (not final)

The plan is around £2.99/month or £24.99/year (about 30% off monthly), with a one-time £49.99 lifetime option for people who'd rather pay once and never think about it again. We'll publish the exact numbers — and confirm they haven't changed — before anyone is charged.

When?

Not soon. We're shipping the free app first, finding out what people actually use, and only then will we build Pro and turn it on. Best estimate: mid-to-late 2026. We'd rather launch Pro when it's genuinely worth paying for than rush to charge.

If you want to be told when Pro launches, email pro@amble.fit and we'll keep a list. No marketing emails — just one message when we flip the switch.

Our promise

Three rules we're holding ourselves to:

  1. Anything free today stays free, forever. Pro is for new features we build later, not features we've taken back. The route planner, walk tracker, Dog Mode, history, Pocket Mode — all of these stay free.
  2. No surprise charges. If we add a free trial, it'll be opt-in with a clear card and a real "no, don't charge me" option. No dark patterns.
  3. Cancel in one tap. If you ever do subscribe, cancelling will use Apple's or Google's standard subscription cancel — the same flow you already know.

Why we're telling you this now

We've watched other walking apps move free features behind paywalls and seen users feel cheated. We don't want to be that. Writing our promises down before there's pressure to break them is the whole point.

If you ever feel we've broken one, email hello@amble.fit.
